JUPITER FALL CLASSIC 2009

Defending a title… Cant remember the last time I went to a surf contest as the previous years winner, but when I saw the surf there wasn’t much else but doubt in my mind with defending that title. Last weekend Mikey DeTemple and I drove down south to Jupiter as winners and ultimately ended up leaving as 3rd place winners… Well lets face it when you go surf and win money we are all winners right, right??? In perfect surf contest fashion the 2009 Jupiter Fall Classic had probably the worst sandbar in the entire state of Florida… With very fun head high surf less then a mile away and at least rideable waves a hundred yards away there was no hiding the fact that the surf was not the main concern when planning this event… When I saw the day unfold with live bands, a bikini contest and food and beer tents galore it was no wonder why the site wasn’t moved at least a hundred yards to where there was actually contestable surf… But then again if thats what  takes for there to be a decent prize purse for a small Florida surf contest then we can’t complain too much…

This event was the 3rd and final event in the first annual Western Atlantic Surf Series… With Nils Schweizer Claiming the overall points lead between the 3 events spanning from New Jersey to Florida he claimed the title as series champion and a check for $5,000 dollars… Congrats Nils you deserved it…

Jeremy Johnston being the contest machine he is, navigated through the dismal surf to execute two 8. something rides in the final to beat out Gorkin in 2nd me in 3rd and Asher Nolan in 4th… Im super stoked for him and I hope that this win will bring further attention to JJ as a ripper shredder and get him a damn sponsor already… We all know he deserves it… At least the $2,500 win will hold him over for a minute…

Check ou this edit of the comp… It is a little lengthy at around 13 minutes but I figured it is a little different then your typical contest edit and I find it entertaining so enjoy and let me know what you think…
